Ethiopian troops to pull out of Mogadishu by Friday
Sendek – Amharic weekly (November 19) reported that Ethiopia announced that its troops to pullout from Somalia starting Friday. The report quoted Foreign Minister Seyoum Mesfin as saying that bitter disagreements between the President and Prime Minister of Somalia transitional government makes it difficult to bring political change in that country. Foreign Minister Seyoum indicates that there is no need to stay in Somalia for unnecessary sacrifices of Ethiopian peacekeeping forces. International Medias reported that Ethiopian troops have started handover of security duties to African peacekeeping forces in some camps in Mogadishu. In a related development, the report says the Islamist group, Al-Shebab controlled areas about 15km close to Mogadishu.
Commenting on Ethiopian troop pullout Bulcha Demekssa, President of OFDM expressed concern saying if Al-Shebab controlled Mogadishu, it would be a security threat to Ethiopia. Prof. Beyene of UEDF on his part supports the decision to withdraw Ethiopian security forces from Somalia.
