40 Oromo Journalists to be Officially Fired
Finfinnee, Nov. 19, 2008 (OLF News) Our correspondent from Finfinnee (addis Ababa) reported that 40 of the 60 Afan Oromo journalists who used to work for the Ethiopian TV Afan Oromo program, and who were told to stop work as a result of the closure of the TV program, are now about to received an official letter that would announce that they are being fired. The report added that among the 60 journalists who have been under continuous police scrutiny, one is already arrested, four are about to be arrested, 35 of them a letter is being prepared to officially dismiss them from their job, and some 25 of them underwent close examination before being considered “loyal” to the regime and therefore are to be restored to their original or equivalent positions with equivalent pay.
It is to be recalled the OLF News and several media outlets have reported that the current regime has arrested journalist Lelise Wadaajoo, the wife of another journalist Dhaabasaa Waaqjiraa for allegedly having link with the OLF. After their “investigation” of Mrs. Lelisee Wadaajoo, it is reported that her wrong doing turns out to be that “she gave information to her husband” who chose to escape the empire after being jailed for three years without any crime, other than being suspected member of OLF. Moreover, they are reported to be torturing Mrs. Lelisee Wadaajoo for her husband’s address.
The four journalists who are about to be arrested are now reported to have been under strict surveillance, and our correspondent chose not to release their identity information for their safety.
